The Center for Area Studies was founded at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 1974.
With its interdisciplinary and interregional structure it forms the umbrella organization for the following six sections:
Moreover, the Center for Area Studies links the disciplines and faculties cooperating in the individual sections. It fosters problem-oriented research on interregional topics.
